Explaining how we will unfold TIME2FARM
This video is to explain how we plan to establish and run TIME2FARM as a long lasting project.
And making regular video’s like this explaining and showing what we are doing – is part of the HOW. These videos have the purpose of involving much more people into different aspects of the project.
We travel yearly to The Gambia to ensure that the work is progressing as we want it.
- Poverty is what Gambia is facing
- Because of that Time2farm plan is to start from the basics
- Meaning that even the smallest things we do (and your support), makes a great help and differences
- As a Gambian myself, of course I know and understand the Gambian people
Gradually reducing the price of food cost in the Gambian market In the near future. Time2farm focus diverse farming in rural arias growing with the community that we have our farms and encourage farmers to grow more fruit trees and food crops.
- Remote project manament, from DK to Gambia through digital communication platforms and regular visits. We use WhatsApp, Messenger, SMS, now also YouTube and many other platforms to analyse, explain, document, guide and verify the progress of the work with the people on site.
- By attacking the work in distinct phases we can protect and produce much more: First clearing the land, then establishing water, then fencing the land. Then comes the growing of here & now vegetables, while at the same time planting trees for longterm fruit production.
- Trees provide shade, shelter and they grow deep roots that do not need manually added water any more. Tall strong trees are endangered in Gambia – you can say. By protecting and allowing the trees to become huge and fruitful we can develop a whole eco-system of plants beneath them. The complex interplay between big trees and vegetables on the ground is much more self-relying than open land of mono-crops that eventually dry out the land and become easier prey of pesticides.
- By using diversity we can learn more about many species and nature, but it is also great for insect and bird life. And they of course also play a huge role in the plants productivity.
- Working closely with the local community: Getting to know them, developing relationship and trust, involving them in the project as work force, inspiration, local knowledge, local crafts and so on.
- Using natural and local crops, trees, bushes, plants and fertilisers
- Collecting second hand or new materials and tools from Denmark and sending it to Gambia, where it will make a huge difference
- Currently the locals can only produce food sources 1 quarter of the year (the raining season). By digging plenty wells and boreholes can secure water supply throughout the year. This will not only create more food products, it will also allow the local farmers to really specialise in year round professional farming. Imagine working the full year with farming instead of only three months – experience, expertise and feeling of responsibility will multiply.
